From the United Nations stage in Geneva to the pages of The Sydney Morning Herald, the research of UOW India’s A/Prof Kiran Trivedi is attracting international attention for its potential to address one of the world’s most significant public health challenges.
A/Prof Kiran Trivedi, Head of Discipline and Associate Professor of Computer Science at UOW India, was recently invited to present at the United Nations’ AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the summit is the United Nations’ flagship event on artificial intelligence, bringing together global leaders from academia, industry and government to explore how emerging technologies can help solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
At the summit, A/Prof Trivedi presented his research, “Listening to Mosquitoes: Using AI to Detect Disease-Carrying Species,” which uses artificial intelligence and wingbeat analysis to identify mosquito species responsible for transmitting diseases such as malaria and dengue fever.
The research demonstrates how accessible, innovative technology can be applied to real-world problems, supporting public health efforts through the rapid identification of disease-carrying mosquitoes and enabling more targeted interventions.
The invitation to present at the UN summit recognises A/Prof Trivedi’s significant contribution to AI research and reflects the depth of expertise and innovation across the UOW Global Enterprises network.
