Values – Excellence, Collaboration
UOW College has recently launched a number of brand new subjects, having been through an extensive development process to come up with the following new courses:
- Launch – explores common expectations and experiences of university students to assist students to transition into the Higher Education environment. A unique subject linking to 5 areas of Australian Aboriginal knowledges (Country, Connectedness, Culture, Kinship and Journey), the subject introduces students to the campus, technology, success in studies, academic integrity and research skills.
- Language for Learning - provides students with opportunities to develop their knowledge of, and competence and confidence in the use of text-based language in preparation for future studies. It has a focus on engaging with, and critically analysing, sources of information in terms of purpose for writing, the style employed and writing techniques evident in the text.
- Scientific Thinking - provides students with a functional understanding of the basic tenets of science, the underlying cognitive skills that allow us to solve complex problems, and strategies to investigate and interpret the world around us.
- Mathematics Subjects – Maths for Humanities, Maths for Sciences and Maths for Engineering 1 – with tailored maths content to the destination course of study.
Academic program staff have gone above and beyond in developing these new subjects. The new subjects are more closely aligned to the UOW Faculty courses, and we are confident that we will be setting our students up for success when they transition to University. UOW College students have access to the support and flexibility they need to succeed.
“While the subjects will be refined in the weeks and months to come as they are delivered for the first time, I would like to acknowledge the exceptional effort of our staff who worked so hard to get us to this point. It is a fantastic display of our values of Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation and Passion at work. Thank you so much” – Felix Lancely, General Manager UOW College Australia.
