We are thrilled to announce that UOW Malaysia's animated short film, "People of the Forest," has received the Special Jury Award in the Wonderful World category at the prestigious Cannes Art Video International Film Festivals (AVIFF).
This remarkable achievement is a testament to the collaborative spirit and talent within the UOW Global Enterprises community.
Produced by our very own Communication and Media Studies School at UOW Malaysia, the film was made possible through a partnership with Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (Aswara) and contributions from several secondary schools.
"People of the Forest" brings attention to the urgent conservation needs of the vulnerable orangutans in Sabah, East Malaysia. The film's international acclaim has helped elevate this critical issue to a global platform, encouraging stronger conservation efforts.
The film is a shining example of teamwork and diversity, featuring the voices of 12 secondary school students, the technical expertise of seven undergraduate students, and the invaluable guidance of four faculty members from UOW Malaysia.
Roselina Khir, the film's screenwriter and co-producer, commended the project's collaborative approach, while co-producer Murina Pawanteh highlighted the enriching learning experience it offered to younger participants.
We are immensely proud of this accomplishment and believe it underscores the impact we can have when we come together for a meaningful cause. The recognition at Cannes AVIFF is not just an honour for UOW Malaysia, but also an inspiration for all of UOW Global Enterprises to continue striving for excellence and making a positive impact on the world.
