The School of Hospitality, Tourism, and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) at UOW Malaysia hosted an engaging event on 7 September 2023, marking a significant day for culinary and hospitality education.
The campus had the honour of welcoming 35 students from the renowned Five Best Skill Training Centre, along with seasoned executive chefs from the Chef Association of Malaysia 2016. This visit was a prime opportunity for an exchange of insights and exploration of the academic offerings at UOW Malaysia.
The event commenced with a detailed presentation, providing the visiting students and chefs a glimpse into the wide-ranging hospitality and culinary programs available at UOW Malaysia. This session was an enlightening opportunity for the guests to discover the various academic pathways on offer.
Following the informative presentation, the visitors were treated to a unique culinary experience. A meticulously prepared three-course lunch by the SHTCA’s talented chefs and students was served in the training restaurant, displaying the exceptional culinary skills and commitment of the school’s aspiring chefs. A highlight of the day was an ice-carving demonstration led by Executive Chef Hamir from the SHTCA, who skilfully transformed a block of ice into an intricate sculpture, impressing the audience with his artistry.
The visitors also toured the campus, with a special focus on the state-of-the-art kitchen facilities. These modern kitchens, fitted with the latest technology and equipment, are designed to foster the culinary talents of students in a world-class learning environment.
The visit by the students and chefs was mutually beneficial, offering them a look into the high-quality education and practical experience provided by the SHTCA.
