This event focused on raising funds for the underprivileged in Penang, in partnership with the Social Welfare Department of Penang.
Inaugurated by Mr Wong Hon Wai, Exco Tourism and Creative Economy of Penang, the festival welcomed notable guests like Mr Goh Choon Aik, Member of the State Assembly for Bukit Tambun, Dato’ Haji Abdul Rafique Bin Abdul Karim, Honorary Consul General of Pakistan, and Mr. Ishwaran Nadarajan, Community Development Officer from the Social Welfare Department.
The event showcased an array of cultural activities, culinary experiences, and artistic expressions, drawing in over 8,000 attendees. With more than 20 food trucks, over 30 food stalls, and various booths, the festival highlighted the region's cultural vibrancy through delicious cuisines, handicrafts, and artwork, while also being a hub for family and pet-friendly activities.
The festival served as a platform for UOWM KDU students to showcase their talents in diverse fields such as music, dance, art, and technology. It featured competitions, workshops, and even a lucky draw. A standout was the introduction of fish finger snacks with Malaysian flavors, crafted by chefs from the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts, which received positive feedback and are being considered for future commercialization.
The event's social contribution was significant, successfully raising RM 60,000 to support those in need in Penang. These funds are earmarked for critical necessities and local initiatives aimed at tackling poverty. The festival underscored UOWM KDU Penang's commitment to community support, illustrating the power of collective efforts in creating a positive impact.
