Two academic staff from UOW College Hong Kong (UOWCHK) were presented the 2021 Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Teaching and Learning (OCTAL) at a simple ceremony at the College’s new Kowloon City campus.
Professor Theo Farrell, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) of the University of Wollongong, who presided at the ceremony online, highlighted the achievements of Dr Yim Mei Kiano LUK, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences; and Ms Kin Yan KIU, Judy, Lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Technology; who were Highly Commended in the Faculty Award category.
It is the first time that UOWCHK staff won awards at the OCTAL awards. Group CEO and Managing Director of UOW Global Enterprises, Ms Marisa Mastroianni, paid tribute to the passion and creativity of the award winners who used available resources to inform on their teaching. She encouraged all UOWCHK staff to continue to identify and implement areas for improvement in the teaching and learning at the College.
Presenting the awards on behalf of UOW, Ms Vanessa Bourne, President of UOWCHK, said the awards prove the calibre of UOWCHK staff is at a standard comparable to that in Australia. Senior Management of the College including Vice-Presidents, Faculty Deans and Academic Registrar, were on hand to congratulate the award winners.
Kiano and Judy expressed thanks to their respective Faculty Deans and other colleagues for their support in nominating them for the awards.
