The recent convocation ceremonies at UOW Malaysia were a celebration of the academic achievements of 1,745 graduates.
Held at the Glenmarie Campus Multipurpose Hall and the Setia Spice Convention Centre in Penang, these events marked a significant milestone in the educational journey of students from both the Selangor and Penang campuses.
Chancellor Datuk Seri Micheal Yam awarded degrees to 1,105 graduates from the Selangor campus and 640 from the Penang campus on the 18th and 19th of November. These convocations symbolised not just the completion of academic endeavours but also the beginning of professional careers for the graduates, many of whom have already secured employment.
Key figures in attendance included Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah, Chairman of the UOWMKDU Board of Governors, and Mr. John Green, Chairman of the UOWGE Board of Directors. Faculty members and representatives from partner universities also attended the occasion. There was also a special video speech by Professor Patricia Davidson, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wollongong that was broadcast during the ceremonies.
The ceremonies were also a platform to recognise the exceptional achievements of individual graduates. Sean Quah Kah Ming from the Selangor campus and David Lau Chooi Pian from the Penang campus were both awarded the Valedictorian Award. Additionally, Adryana Camylea Azmera, a Selangor campus graduate, received the Distinguished Graduate Award for her outstanding academic performance.
Cultural elements added a special component to the ceremonies, while a noteworthy performance on the Sape, a traditional musical instrument from East Malaysia, by Dato Medan Abdullah, was a highlight, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Malaysia.
